Try to plan activities in support of your writing in 2014 as far in advance as you can and co-ordinate them as much as possible. For example, you might want to choose a couple of literary festivals to attend. Book them early and start writing about them on your blog or tweeting them well before they take place. Interview one or two of the authors who are taking part. Aim to set up a library or a bookshop event bi-monthly or every quarter and post a calendar detailing your activities on your blog (you can keep on updating it). Help other writers along the way: this is extremely important. Showing generosity to others attracts more readers than just plugging yourself all the time. Also, you’ll be surprised at how much kindness and real practical help you’ll get in return.
Writing is a solitary, sometimes a lonely, activity; working to give and receive this kind of support is invaluable.
